Dixie is not a cat, despite what you may think when one is describing her affect. This beautiful 5 year old Hound is 100% canine, and will show you that with her love and loyalty, but only when she feels like it. When she doesn't, you'll be relegated to opening the door to let her sunbathe and provide many snacks while she ignores you. She often wanders into "her room" for solitary naps, but will also try and cram her 50 pound self onto your lap if the mood strikes. Dixie started out with a rough life - living down south as a hunting dog who did great with the hunting, but not so much with the loud noises. Unfortunately, she lacked some of the social skills necessary to be a good home dog, but that has changed dramatically over the last few months. Dixie is a playful, loving, and (mostly) obedient pup who loves to spend time laying in the sun, chewing on bones, or wiggling her butt for biscuits. She’d do well in a home with a big fenced in yard. While she loves to play with other dogs, she also works well as a solo pup as long as she’s getting regular exercise and socialization with canine friends elsewhere. She needs a patient family willing to continue her training, she is an avid counter-surfer and trash picker. Dixie would do best in a home with no or older children as she can be a bit of a bull in a China shop and no cats for obvious houndy reasons. Dixie also has a neurological condition which causes her to have something called “star-gazing” seizures. She will stare off into space with her head and neck extended upward, and she do not respond to other stimuli. They are subtle and quick and it doesn't affect her quality of life at all, she simply takes 2 pills daily that we toss in her food and gobbles right up. Adoption fee is $375.
