I'm ready for my new family!

Officially I'm Alexander, but everyone calls me "Alex". I am a handsome 7 yr-old shepherd/ Aussie mix and I weigh about 55 lbs. The first year of my life was challenging. Something went wrong when I was neutered down south; I lost circulation in my back legs, my toes were infected and had to be removed. I spent more than a month contained in a crate while I healed. Once released from the hospital, my foster family devoted months to helping me strengthen my legs. Then we had to deal with incontinence issues. Surgery was ruled out, so I ‘m on medicine to reduce the frequency of accidental urination and a special diet to put less stress on my kidneys.
I am not a typical active Aussie; I can run, jump, and play but I don't have the endurance that most dogs have. A couple rounds of fetch is my favorite game. I try to get along with all dogs; however, I can’t tolerate those that come on too strong. I believe cats (like squirrel & birds) are something to chase. I love to be outside rolling in the grass and enjoying my surroundings.
I am a special needs dog. I will likely be on a special kidney diet and incontinence medicine for the rest of my life. My kidney function needs to be checked on a regular basis. If you’d like to meet me, please apply today. My adoption fee is $375.
